RKF ES is a specialist engineering consultancy with offices in Wollongong, Perth, Brisbane and Gladstone. We provide structural engineering, cathodic protection and asset management solutions to a diverse group of clients operating in the mining, marine, transport and heavy industries.
The nature of our work is delivering unique technical engineering solutions to a diverse range of clients varying in both size and business focus. We combine advanced method structural analysis with our inhouse material testing capability to solve problems and meet our client’s needs.
In addition to our technical delivery, we have a long-standing history of site inspections, auditing and physical testing of structures in varying conditions. This capability allows us to work with our clients in managing the maintenance and operation of their assets as well as developing remediation designs for degrading structural components and elements. Position Scope
We are seeking a senior structural engineer to join our busy design team. Ideally, you will be based in Western Australia with at least 5-10 years’ experience working on construction projects within the mining, marine and transport infrastructure (bridges, roads, rail) sectors. Experience conducting site investigations, condition assessments and writing technical reports is essential, as is experience performing structural design calculations and a willingness to travel for client meetings and site inspections.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work from home when not on site with the opportunity to establish a small satellite office as the business expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake detailed site condition audits and investigations into steel and concrete structures;
- Prepare and analyse detailed company reports including structural investigations, concrete and steel condition audits and relevant repair strategies;
- Manage the engagement and performance of external contractors and suppliers;
- Expand RKF ES’ presence through effective stakeholder management;
- Manage ongoing critical projects with a key focus on safety and quality;
- Undertake structural design including computer-based analysis of mining/marine/transport infrastructure structures with concrete and steelwork;
- Acting as client contact as appointed for specific projects;
- Liaising with staff members in other offices; and
- Other tasks as allocated by the Managing Director and other senior staff.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- A Bachelor Degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering;
- Minimum of five (5) years’ site management, concrete, construction, corrosion or design experience;
- Experience conducting site investigations, condition audits and writing technical reports;
- Understanding and experience on major construction projects;
- Highly developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills;
- Be willing to travel locally and interstate if required;
- Be willing and able to carry out work at heights if required;
- Be currently residing in Australia and have Permanent Residency or Citizenship; and
- Be fluent in written and spoken English to a professional level.
Desirable:
- Experience in structural analysis and design;
- Experience in marine, yard machine tracks or shafts/ tunnels;
- Advanced knowledge and experience in using structural analysis software packages such as SpaceGass and Strand7;
- Experience with modern concrete admixtures, superflow concrete, steel fibre concrete, self-levelling self-compacting concrete and externally vibrated slip form concrete; and
- Experience in a QA/QC role.
