RKF Engineering Services was engaged by our client, a Canadian mining company, to provide the cathodic protection design for embedded steelwork between the temporary and permanent liners in two mine shafts.  

RKF Engineering developed the design of the cathodic protection system utilising existing steel tubes installed outside the shaft to provide artificial ground freezing during shaft construction. The final design is similar to the design of cathodic protection systems for well casings. By utilising these tubes as buried anodes, the system is able to provide uniform protection to the steel without the need for an additional ground bed anode.
