Project Description

Berthing Dolphin Concrete Repairs

RKF Engineering Services was engaged by our client, a coal terminal operator in far North Queensland, regarding required repairs to its berthing dolphin located 2km offshore. The dolphin was subject to severe and highly corrosive environmental conditions and as a result, had sustained significant corrosion induced damage to the concrete reinforcement.

We were required to develop a solution which would provide a minimum of 25 years additional service life for the structure.

RKF Engineering Services provided a design for the concrete remediation which included cathodic protection for all repair and non-repair areas. We also project managed the repairs and designed the heavy duty work platforms used by the construction team to ensure a safe working environment during all tidal and weather conditions, given the exposed offshore location.
