Project Description
Thickener Tank Repairs
RKF Engineering Services was engaged by our client, a mining company located in the Bowen Basin, Queensland who required replacement of the internal floor and repairs to the walls and tunnel of a magnetite thickener tanks due to concrete damage caused by reinforcement corrosion and differential settlement. Construction works were scheduled for completion during a major shutdown.
We were required to design a replacement tank floor on poor subsoil that had been compromised by leaks through the existing slab. Concrete repairs were also completed on the thickener tunnel and launder to remove spalled and drummy concrete.
After the designs were completed, we worked with the client and contractor to further develop the construction techniques and sequence to minimise construction time and maximise the time allowed for concrete curing prior to the thickener returning to operations.
During construction, engineering inspections were completed to confirm the works met the design requirements and to ensure the thickener would continue operations as a long term asset. After works were completed, these inspections allowed our engineers to provide certification and engineering sign-off for the project.
