Project Description
Bridge Bearing Grout Trials
RKF Engineering Services was engaged to review the client’s standard bridge bearing grout procedure. The existing procedure used an epoxy based grout to reduce downtime during repairs, but the grouts used were difficult to work with on remote bridges with difficult access.
After consultation with the client to identify and confirm the performance requirements for returning the bridges to service after repairs, we nominated several high early strength cementitious grouts that could be used. To ensure the correct grout was specified, we conducted in-house test trials using the nominated grouts to determine the grout that provided the best workability and strength gain to reduce the time before the bridge could be returned to service.
On completion of the trial, we nominated a specific grout and water content and the contractor has adopted this into a new procedure for regrouting bridge bearings.
